A new ad from MoveOn.org and the comedy video Web site "Funny or Die" features Will Ferrell and a team of other celebrities offering a tongue-in-cheek defense of insurance companies. "Something Terrible is Happening" features, among others, fake doctors Donald Faison from Scrubs, Olivia Wilde from House and Linda Cardellini from ER urging viewers to remember who the "real victims" of the health care debate are -- insurance executives.
Funny or Die might be best remembered in political circles as the site responsible for socialite Paris Hilton's "official" response to John McCain's campaign commercials, in which he compared Barack Obama to Hilton and Britney Spears. Its health care ad will be exclusively online and MoveOn.org executive director Justin Ruben said in a news release that he hopes the humor will "serve as a powerful reminder to Americans about what exactly is at stake."
The ad is the latest in a string about health care to feature celebrities. Rock the Vote released ads with Faison and his co-star Zack Braff and gossip blogger Perez Hilton. Those are part of an effort to reach young adults, which will be explored in a story Wednesday on NationalJournal.com.
The complete video is after the jump.

- Cut Payments To Medicare Advantage
- Medicare Advantage allows seniors to receive their Medicare benefits through a private health insurance plan like an HMO, PPO or private fee-for-service plan. But it overpays in relation to traditional Medicare plans. Under Democrats' proposals, the benchmarks for payments would be reduced either to the same levels as fee-for-service or an average of the providers' proposals. read more
