Poll: Plurality Supports Current Overhaul Effort

By Ronald Brownstein, NationalJournal.com

The latest Allstate/National Journal Heartland Monitor poll, released today, shows that by 49 percent to 42 percent, a plurality of Americans now say they support "the current legislation to reform health care in the U.S." That's a notable change from most polling over the summer, which found rising opposition to the reform effort.

But beneath that overall tilt toward President Obama's top domestic priority, the survey found sharp divisions over the plan along lines of gender, race, income, partisanship and even marital status. The charts that follow after the jump track support for, and opposition to, the plan among many key groups, as well as for Obama's approval rating.
